7 online shopping hacks to save money

Updated: Apr 19

Save money on your next online shopping trip

We all like to save money where possible and online shopping is no different. As you know, the online world is ever increasing, making life a lot easier. We are able to make online purchases within seconds, and sometimes, before we know it, we have spent a fortune.

If you ever wondered how to save money while shopping online, then this post is for you.

Below are some easy hacks that will enable you to save money while shopping online.

1. Buy through a 'cash-back' site

'Cash-back' sites are websites where you can get cash back on most online purchases.

When you are buying online, make your purchase through a cash back site. For example, if you want to shop at Amazon, instead of going directly to Amazon.com, start at a cash-back site, click on the link to the Amazon page, then begin shopping. You will pay the full amount when you buy, but will then receive the discount in the form of a cashback.

I currently use the TopCashback app to earn back a percentage of what I spend when I purchase online.

There are other cash-back sites available so be sure to do your research and get signed up today!

2. Get the 'Shoptagr' app

Sometimes we may decide to wait for an item to go on sale before we purchase it. However, the only problem with this is that we may miss the sale or the item is sold out because we were just not early enough.

Never miss a price drop with the Shoptagr app. It allows you to track fashion items you truly love and get notified when they go on sale and when they come back in stock.

All you have to do is simply bookmark the item and save it to Shoptagr.

3. Search the item on Google to compare prices

Before you make a purchase on a retailer’s site, type the item’s name in Google (on the shopping tab) to see the price at a glance on other retailers’ sites.

You will be surprised to see the same item on different sites for a much cheaper price.

4. Leave items in your shopping basket

Online retailers track your every more. It's undoubtedly distressing to them when you load up your basket, only to close the tab on your browser and move along. That's why you might find a discount code in your mailbox a day or two after you leave your cart.

To get your discount code, you must ensure you are logged into your account so the retailers know who abandoned the cart. Not every retailer does this but it is worth trying a few.

5. Check discount sites for promo codes

Myvouchercodes.co.uk, Groupon.com, and Coupons.com are sites I check frequently. You can also sign up for regular updates if you prefer.

6. Sign up for email discounts

Many online stores will email you discounts when you sign up as an email subscriber. However, I recommend using an online shopping email so you don't have promotions constantly filling up your email account.

If you are already faced with this problem, use Unroll.me to declutter your inbox.

7. Use social networking to keep track

Connect with your favourite retailers on social media to know when there is a price drop or a discount. They often post special discount codes to announce sales.

You can also connect with their influences on social to get the latest on discount codes and price drops.
